Elizabeth Dorazio
Elizabeth Dorazio lives and works between the United Arab Emirates and Brazil, with an art practice that includes drawing, collage, woodworking, and installation to explore the mysteries of human relations to nature and the cosmos. Nature is the very essence of her work. By nature, she understands not only the environment and the enormous variety of living forms but also the dynamic principle that transforms matter and keeps it in constant movement. Even though scientific disciplines are devoted to understanding natural phenomena, the random and imponderable element can happen and suddenly change everything. Her practice is based on three basic operations: cutting, overlapping, and pasting. She understands cutting with the scissors as drawing, that is, admitting no error. Now and then they happen, and when they do, she incorporates failings and mistakes into her work. Randomness and unpredictability are inseparable from her poetics and artistic practice. At times, her work includes collaborations with traditional arts practitioners from around the world.
